At 18 years of age, Jannik Sinner is having an outstanding end of the season. The upcoming Italian broke in the top100 (now 95) after a couple of great runs in Antwerp (where he reached the semifinal) and Vienna. The teenager is having an impressing week in Milan, where he is competing in the Next Gen Finals thanks to a wildcard. After 2 matches, Jannik has comfortably qualified for the semifinal after dismissing Frances Tiafoe and conceding 3 games to Mikael Ymer.

About Berrettini reaching the ATP Finals

Finally, Italy seems to have a renaissance in tennis on the ATP Tour. In fact, while Flavia Pennetta and Francesca Schiavone made the Italians proud about their slam titles, on the men’s side there was not much to cheer about in the last few decades.

However, Berrettini is giving hope to the Italians fans after reaching the ATP Finals. In addition, Matteo has a rather watchable tennis and likable personality that is making him a fan favorite.

Talking with SkySport, Jannik Sinner talked about the Italian movement in tennis and Berrettini to comment

“Certainly Italy has never been so strong among the males, we have almost 9 players among the Top 100 which means 10% in the Slams. Matteo Berrettini has had a fantastic season, especially starting with the grass and then the US Open. He earned the qualification for the Finals, the whole of Italy is with him in London.

I think he [Berrettini] can also do well in London with that field. We push each other and this is very important. We are getting to know each other better, but I think everyone has to go his own way. Me at Finals? It’s difficult to say, the road is still long. Now I’m doing well, but we hope that some Italian can play in Turin. it would be the maximum. We see what happens between 3-4 years; now I have to work.”

The ATP Finals will take place in Turin un 2021. 2 Italians have a shot at playing in there. That would be exciting!
