Gasquet beats Simon to win the 2012 Bangkok Open

The all-French final went to Richard Gasquet in straight easy sets. I took only 69 minutes for Richard to defeat his friend that was unable to oppose any resistance despite a very good start (Simon broke Gasquet in the opening game).

From Gasquet

“I played against a French player who is also my friend so of course it a little bit strange but for me it’s a title and I’ve had some tough matches this week so I’m very happy to win,” said Gasquet.

“The people here are very nice, the crowd was very nice. The night I played against Dimitrov it was late, but the people stayed and cheered for me so it’s more reason for me to come back next year and defend my title.”

From Simon

“I was playing some of the best tennis I ever played yesterday [vs. Tipsarevic]  and today I just couldn’t play at all.” commented Simon

This is the 7th career title for Gasquet, the second in Asia (after winning in Chennai in 2007). After this tournament Gasquet will be raneked as world no.11.

Simon will be ranked world no.16 overtaking Kohlschreiber.
