Roddick raises more than 1 million dollars at his charity gala dinner

Andy Roddick still makes headlines and for good things. The (now) former tennis pro had a remarkable result by raising  more that 1 million during the gala dinner of the Roddick Foundation.

“The foundation is growing, and this event gives us strong momentum going into 2013,” said Andy.

Here you have the mission statement of the foundation.

Talent is universal. Opportunity is not.

Almost without exception, children who suffer from economic hardship, educational disadvantages and neglect do not have a chance to make decisions about their futures. They are born into circumstances that predetermine life’s outcomes and are not exposed to environments or activities that unlock their fullest potential. At worst, it creates a cycle of unfulfilled potential that can pass on from generation to generation.

ARF believes talent is universal but opportunity is not. By focusing on character development and values such as honor, respect, dignity and duty, our goal is to provide all children a support system that gives them hope for a brighter future.

To achieve this goal, ARF has raised over $10 million to fund programs that improve the daily lives of thousands of children. These programs include everything from summer and tennis camps to after-school programs and school uniform initiatives.

To expand ARF’s capabilities, we have announced the construction of a state-of-the-art facility in Austin, Texas that will include more than 10,000 square feet of computer labs, meeting and mentoring rooms, office space, a nutrition and physical education center, and eight lighted tennis courts.
