Sharapova joins Bianca Andreescu, Angelique Kerber and Kei Nishikori at the Hawaii Open

The Russian is hoping to use the Hawaii Open as a warm-up for the upcoming tennis tournament in Australia.

The Hawaii Open is set to get underway from 26th to 28th December at Stan Sheriff Center. It will be graced by some notable tennis players such as the five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova, three-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber, 2019 U.S. Open Champion Bianca Andreescu, ATP World Tour Top 10 and U.S Open semifinalist Kei Nishikori among many more. 

Maria Sharapova’s schedule

For Maria Sharapova, she is soon going to have a hectic tennis schedule. The next two months will see her participate in three exhibition tennis events. Her first match will be against Amanda Anisimova during Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala World Tennis Championship from 19th to 21st December. Then she will take part in the Hawaii Open due from 26th to 28th December at Stan Sheriff Center. Finally, she will head to Kooyong Classic set for January 2020.

So far, so good for Maria Sharapova, who has won a total of 36 titles ever since she turned pro in 2001. In 2005, she topped the WTA Tour rankings succeeding Lindsay Davenport. Besides, she has played in ten Grand Slams finals, winning five titles in those finals. Maria Sharapova has also been part of the Russian Fed Cup Team in the years,2008,2011,2012, and 2015. Last but not least, she represented Russia during the 2012 Olympics in London.

 

She won her last title in 2017 during the WTA Singles Finals in Tianjin, China. The following year she only managed to reach the French Open quarterfinals stage.

The Russian is hoping to use the Hawaii Open as a warm-up for the upcoming tennis tournament in Australia. “The Hawaii Open is a great way to warm up for the competition in Australia, which is around the corner. I’m excited to play, explore the beautiful island, and meet many fans,” she said.

 

The tickets for the Hawaii Open will be on sale starting from 5th November HST. Already, the VIP Experiences are available for purchase.

Ranked no.17, the German played her last match on the 1st of October when she lost to Polona Hercog 6-4 6-2 in the 2nd round in Beijing.

Angelique Kerber’s best performance of this year was reaching the final in Eastbourne and Indian Wells.
