Caroline Wozniacki has had a modest tennis season. The 29-year-old has not won a WTA singles title but reached the final at the Charleston Open. She is currently 38th on the rankings. With the season close to its conclusion, Wozniacki will not have a chance to improve her ranking. The former world number is now planning for the 2020 season.

Her brother, Patrick, has confirmed that she will play at the Auckland Open next year. The tournament will begin on 6th January. Patrick revealed that Caroline will play in Auckland and the Australian Open later that month. Wozniacki last played at the China Open where she lost in the semifinals to eventual champion Naomi Osaka. The Danish player won her first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in 2018. However, towards the end of the year, she revealed that doctors had diagnosed her with rheumatoid arthritis. She has been managing her tournament appearances ever since the diagnosis. Her brother said that she had not decided on playing other tournaments beyond next year’s appearances in Australia.
Auckland is where everything started for Andreescu
Last year, Wozniacki reached the round of 16 at the Auckland open before losing to an 18-year-old Bianca Andreescu. The Canadian will play at the event next year. After defeating Wozniacki, she made it to the finals but lost to Julia Gorges. Despite the loss, the tournament proved to be a sign of great things in 2019. The Canadian player has won three titles this year. She won the Indian Wells Open and the Rogers Cup before claiming her first major title at the US Open. Andreescu and Wozniacki met again in the third round in New York. She defeated the 29-year-old on her way to the title. She defeated Serena Williams in the final. Serena will also play in Auckland next year.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion has not played since her US Open defeat. She failed to qualify for this month’s WTA Finals in Shenzhen. The finals began this week and Andreescu made her debut at the tournament. However, the Canadian struggled with two separate injuries before withdrawing from the tournament. She lost her first match to Simona Halep, revealing after the match that she had struggled with pain in her back. In her second match against Karolina Pliskova, Andreescu retired after suffering a knee injury. The 19-year-old withdrew from the tournament and said she would focus on preparing for the 2020 season.
