Matteo Berrettini elated with joining Federer, Nadal, Djokovic in the ATP Finals

Berrettini

Matteo Berrettini had good hopes ahead of his 2019 campaign, but being outside of the top50 he wasn’t aiming at all at qualifying for the ATP Finals in London. Eventually, during this season, the Italian won the title in Budapest and Stuttgart before hitting the headlines for reaching the semifinal at the US Open.

Matteo “confirmed” his status as a top player after New York by reaching the semifinals in Shanghai and Vienna to get closer and closer to qualifying for the ATP Finals. However, the Italian crashed out in the opener in Paris, and Gael Monfils got dangerously close to overtaking him in the living rankings. Nevertheless, the Frenchman fell at the last hurdle (Shapovalov), and Matteo became the first Italian to qualify for the Finals since 1978 (Corrado Barazzutti). Matteo is currently ranked no.9, but he will be no.8 from Monday.

Being with Federer, Djokovic and Nadal

Berrettini will join the likes of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal in the Finals. The Italian commented:

“I would have never thought I could qualify a couple of months ago. I am just so happy to be among the Top 8 in London. It is a great satisfaction and the reward for the superb work that my team, my family and of course myself have put in place this whole year. Now we prepare for the final show! I will be ready.”

Berrettini and his girlfriend Ajla Tomljanovic

Things are going great for Matteo Berrettini on and off the court. In fact, the world no.9 is enjoying a fantastic relationship with Nick Kyrgios’ former girlfriend Ajla Tomljanovic that is following him all over the world when she can. Ajla is currently 51 in the WTA rankings, and she is expected to support Matteo during the Finals.
