Currently world no. 1 Ashleigh reached the semifinal after defeating Belinda Bencic 5-7 6-1 6-2 and Petra Kvitova 6-4 6-2.

Her best result of the season was winning the title in Miami where she overcame Karolina Pliskova in the final 7-6(1) 6-3 and in Paris where she beat Marketa Vondrousova in the final 6-1 6-3 and in Birmingham where she defeated Julia Goerges in the final 6-3 7-5.

Barty on her season

The Australian commented: “It’s really exciting. I think this year’s been an incredible year, and this week we’ve kind of come into it like a bonus week. It’s an opportunity to play against the best of the best, and to have another opportunity now, in the semifinals of a massive tournament, is really exciting.”

Ranked no. 2, Karolina reached the semifinal after defeating Bianca Vanessa Andreescu 6-3 ret. and Simona Halep 6-0 2-6 6-4 after a sheer roller coaster.

Her best result of the current season was managing to win the title in Brisbane where she defeated Lesya Tsurenko in the final 4-6 7-5 6-2 and in Rome where she overcame Johanna Konta in the final 6-3 6-4 and in Eastbourne where she defeated Angelique Kerber in the final 6-1 6-4 and in Zhengzhou where she beat Petra Martic in the final 6-3 6-2.

After beating Simona HAlep, the Czech reflected on playing the semifinal against Ashleigh to comment:

“Of course, she’s World No.1, it’s going to be extremely difficult. She’s also great on this surface. It suits her well. We did practice last week. It’s not impossible. Of course, my goal now is to go little bit more than last two years.”
