Bianca Andreescu became the youngest tennis player to participate in the ongoing WTA Finals in Shenzhen. The Canadian booked herself a slot in this year’s tournament after winning the US Open. She beat Serena Williams 6-3, 7-5 to lift the title.

The 19-year-old made her debut in the WTA Finals in Shenzhen with her first match being against Simona Halep. She put in a strong performance, but the Romanian was hard to beat. Bianca lost the game 3-6,7-6,6-3 after fighting a back problem to finish the match.

Her next match in the red group match was against Karolina Pliskova. It is during this second match that she was forced to bow out after suffering a knee injury. She will be replaced by Sofia Kenin, who will face Elina Svitolina.

Bianca kept on fighting irrespective of her knee injury

Even after getting her knee injured, Bianca kept on playing for a while before quitting. Her knee was trapped heavily, and she returned to the court to try out her luck. Unfortunately, her movement on the court was hampered. The US Open Champion’s knee twisted, and at that point, her team thought it was wise to abandon the match.

After undergoing an MRI scan, this is what Andreescu said, “I had a scan Thursday to check my knee after last night’s match, and unfortunately, the results show that I need to withdraw.”

“It was amazing to play here in Shenzhen at the end of this incredible season. I’m very disappointed to not be able to finish the year on my terms, but I am hopeful I will have more chances to play here in the future, “she said.
