Prediction and head to head Elina Svitolina vs. Simona Halep

Elina Svitolina bests Simona Halep 7-5 6-3 in the Round Robin in Shenzhen on Wednesday. Svitolina will fight against Bianca Vanessa Andreescu in the Round Robin.

Score, report, and key facts

1st set.

Svitolina enjoyed quite a good start of the set after breaking Halep in the 2nd game (2-0) before consolidating her break and lead 3-0. Anyhow, that wasn’t sufficient for Svitolina to win the set as the Romanian succeeded in breaking back in the 5th (2-3) game. The Ukrainian maintained her cool to break Halep in the 12th (7-5) game.

2nd set.

Svitolina won the set after recovering from 1 break down. In fact, after dropping her serve in the 3rd (1-2) game, Elina broke back in the 4th (2-2) and in the 8th (5-3) game before winning the set 6-3.

Statistics

At the end of the match, the Ukrainian scored 74 points vs. Halep’s 61 points.

Svitolina served very well to win 76% of the points (26/34) behind her first serve. Nonetheless she won only 43% points (13/30) on her second serve. The Ukrainian was pretty focused in converting 50% of the break points that she procured (4/8). On the other side, Simona had a tough time in converting her break points since she converted only 40% of her break points (2/5). That was one of the key issues for her demise.

After this contest, the head to head between Svitolina and Halep is 5-5.

HOT SHOT

Svitolina’s Interview

Talking about the match, Elina commented:

“I try to work every single point and start from the beginning just trying to take one point at a time. I don’t really think so much about if it’s good, if it’s bad. Just taking every point, every game at a time. I try to step on the court and to always have positive mindset.

I don’t take it as a pressure, to be fair. Of course, there is some kind of pressure because you’re losing points in this week. I think this kind of thing is pressure. I always try to never take it that way. I always try to take it as: I played well here, so let’s find this year as well. This kind of mindset, this kind of game, it takes work to do it.”
