Tsonga trashes Seppi to win the 2012 ATP in Metz

In France, in Metz, you need to have a French winner and… we had one, a very deserving one: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

The world no.6 had a wonderful tournament to succesfully defend last year’s title.

The Match

It wasn’t great fun (especially for Seppi) as Tsonga had a very clear edge over the Italian. The Frenchman lost only 6 points on his powerful serve to blast 7 aces. His “effort” was completed in less than a hour.

From Tsonga

“I had a complete match with no gaps, as opposed to yesterday,” said Tsonga. “Of course, it’s a lot easier when I can make a difference in two or three shots. If I had to define this week, I would simply say it was a perfect one.”

“This is the first time I have been able to defend a title,” added Tsonga. “So it’s even more special that it’s here at the Moselle Open, where I am the ambassador.”

From Seppi

“I want to congratulate Jo because he played too well today,” said Seppi. “His serve was impressive and there’s very little I could do. Unfortunately, this is the way it goes sometime indoors, matches go by really fast without being able to do anything. It was a great week for me and overall I am happy to have reached the final here.”

This is Tsonga’s 9th title, the 2nd of the season after winning the QatarExxonMobil Open in Doha. This is the first time that the Frenchman manages to defend a title.

With this win Jo consolidates his 8th position in the Race to London (or Year to Date) rankings to increase his chances to play in London.
