Roger Federer continues to be successful in his 20th season as a professional. The Swiss player turned pro in 1999 and has gone on to set new records in the game. He has won twenty Grand Slams in his career, the most by a male player in history. The Swiss has also spent a record 310 weeks at the number one position in his career. Despite his success in the game, Federer still has a few records he is yet to surpass.

Connors’ 5 records that Federer can break

Retired American player Jimmy Connors still holds some records set in his playing days. He currently holds five records, which Federer is yet to surpass. The American won 109 ATP titles in his career. The Swiss has the record in his sights after he won his 103rd title at the Swiss Indoors in Basel. In addition to winning the most men’s titles, Connors holds the record for the most finals and semifinals appearances. The American played in 164 finals, compared to Federer’s 157. He played in 240 semifinals while the Swiss player has played in 209. Connors also holds the records for most matches played and matches won by a male player. He played in 1556 matches, winning 1274. Roger trails both records, having played in 1503 matches and winning 1235.

Federer focused on his health and family

At 38, Federer is playing in the final years of his career. However, the Swiss player could equal or surpass most of Connors’s records if he plays well in the next few seasons. Roger has said that chasing the records will not motivate him to continue playing. The 20-time Grand Slam champion has consistently said that his family will decide how much longer he continues in the game. He insists that his health and family are the focus of his career moving forward. He said, “I’m not putting a plan on how to chase the most titles in the near future. The priority is my health and the family. Everything else is subordinate to this.”

Roger to challenge Nadal and Djokovic in the ATP Finals

After his victory in Basel, Federer has decided to skip the Paris Masters. The former world number one will not play in Bercy. Instead, he will prepare for the ATP Finals in London next month. Federer apologized to fans for the decision but said he needed to pace himself after reaching the final in Basel. He is aiming to be 100% fit in London for the season-ending tournament. The current world number three intends to play at the French Open next year and fans in Paris can look forward to seeing him at the tournament.
