Bianca’s coach Sylvain Bruneau took some time to talk about Andreescu’s schedule for 2020 aimed at making her less prone to injuries. Speaking in a press conference ahead of Bianca’s first match against Simona Halep in the WTA Finals in Shenzhen, the coach pointed out some of the reasons that have affected the teenager’s fitness level.

Bianca Andreescu has risen from being an underdog to challenging for titles. She has faced some serious competitors such as Serena Williams. In her latest encounter with Serena Williams at U.S Open, she defeated the American in the finals to win her first Grand Slam title.

Unfortunately, injuries have been jeopardizing her excellent run in tennis. The 2019 season has seen her suffer some injuries for instance in March, she picked up a shoulder injury. She also withdrew from the Miami and French Opens before missing the whole grass-court season.  But it now seems that her coach has been working on a lasting solution to the Canadian’s injury woes.

A new schedule in the offing

Sylvain Bruneau linked Bianca Andreescu’s injuries to playing so many matches after a short while. Nevertheless, the coach is working on a reliable schedule meant to minimize Bianca’s injuries come next year.

Her current ranking has also prompted Sylvain to act fast and come up with a new schedule. Currently, she is ranked at position four behind Naomi Osaka in the WTA rankings and come next year, Bianca will not be playing a lot. The change is supposed to give her enough time to rest hence keep injuries at bay, according to her coach.

In an attempt to prevent injuries, Bianca has a fitness expert and therapist who are supposed to help her a lot. Both professionals have been closer to her to ensure she is both physically fit and mentally stable.

Sylvain commented: “We’re going to go about scheduling differently next year than what we did this year. At the start of the year this year, it was just a match after another after another after another. I think there was a bit of probably too much volume.

Her ranking now being what it is, we’re going to have a different approach. She’s not going to play as much. We’re going to try to make it different definitely.

I think we learned a little bit from what happened, too. I thought it was very exciting in January and February, all of that, all those matches. But then somehow it got to her with the injury. I think we all learned.”

Bianca suffers another injury to her back

Bianca Andreescu became the youngest tennis player to grace the 2019 WTA Finals in Shenzhen. Her first match was against Simona Halep, who defeated the Canadian hence reducing her chances of qualifying to the next round.

Apart from the defeat, Bianca experienced some issue with her back. After the second set, she received treatment on her lower back injury before resuming her match. In the third set, there were instances in which Bianca struggled in her movement. But, she did not cite a back issue as the reasons why she lost the match.

In case the back injury doesn’t cause her to withdraw from the ongoing WTA Finals, Bianca is set to face Karolina Pliskova in her next match.
