US Open champion, Bianca Andreescu, has been the breakout player of 2019. The Canadian is among the favorites to win the WTA player of the year after a spectacular season. The 19-year-old has won three WTA titles and is currently fourth in the rankings after starting the year outside the top 100. Andreescu will make her debut in the WTA Finals.

Who is Bianca Andreescu’s coach and fitness trainee?

The 19-year-old will have the support of her team as she bids to win the tournament in Shenzhen. Her coach, Sylvain Bruneau, will be at the tournament and has said he expects big things from his protégé. In addition to her coach, her fitness trainer Virginie Tremblay has accompanied her to Shenzhen. Virgine and Andreescu share a special bond. The 28-year-old trainer coached up the Canadian at the Auckland Open after Bruneau could not make it to the tournament. The 2018 US Open champion played well in New Zealand, defeating Caroline Wozniacki and Venus Williams on her way to the final. Although she lost in the final, the tournament was the beginning of Andreescu’s ascension to the top of the game. Her trainer holds a Masters’ and a degree in Kinesiology.

Bianca’s mother and father may join later

Andreescu’s physiotherapist, Kirstin Bauer, and her agent Jonathan Dasnières de Veigy have also traveled to China. Her parents are yet to make the journey to Shenzhen. However, the 19-year-old expects them travel from Romania to China for the tournament. Bianca will play her first match on Monday against Simona Halep.

Bianca to face Simona Halep for the first time

The Canadian is a big fan of the Romanian and has listed her as one of her tennis idols. The match between the two will be the first meeting in their careers. The current world No.4 has wanted to play the two-time Grand Slam champion for a long time, and she is looking forward to the match.

Halep and Andreescu are in the Purple group alongside Elina Svitolina and Karolina Pliskova. The Canadian fancies her chances to do well in the tournament. Bianca defeated Pliskova in the quarterfinals of the Rogers Cup in August on her way to the title. She also has a victory over Svitolina from their match at the Indian Wells Open which she also won. The second group at the tournament is the Red group which has Naomi Osaka, Ashleigh Barty, Petra Kvitova, and Belinda Bencic. The players will play each other in a round-robin format with the two best players from each group proceeding to the semifinals.
