Elina Svitolina is about to start her title defense at the WTA Finals after her fantastic triumph in 2018 back in Singapore. Currently ranked no.8, Elina had an interesting 2019. In fact, she hasn’t managed to win a single title, but she went deep in many tournaments to also improve her performance during the slams.

Svitolina is part of the purple group in Shenzhen and she will play Karolina Pliskova in her opening match before taking on Bianca Andreescu and Simona Halep. She will kick start her campaign on Monday against the Czech.

Elina is dating her boyfriend Gael Monfils for almost a year, and they are both extremely active on Instagram to open also a joint account called Gems. The Ukrainian also updates her personal account quite frequently. The Frenchman is used to follow Elina during her tournaments when he can, but this week he is engaged in Paris where he is trying to have a deep run to qualify for the ATP Finals.

Ranked no.8, Elina played her last match on the 17th of October when she lost to Veronika Kudermetova 6-2 1-6 7-5 in the 2nd round in Moscow.
Elina Svitolina’s best performance of this season was reaching the semi-finals in at the U.S. Open, in Wimbledon, Indian Wells, Dubai and Doha.
