PARIS. Federer not confirmed to join Nadal, Djokovic, Medvedev, and Zverev in the last Master1000 of the season

Roger Federer may still skip the last ATP1000 of the season

Roger Federer

Roger Federer is not new to have a “dysfunctional” relationship with the last ATP1000 of the season in Paris. This event is scheduled soon after his hometown tournament in Basel and the Swiss legend is not very happy about playing back to back tournaments ahead of the ATP Finals.

Roger was criticized by the organization for skipping this event as his participation is always linked to a “better success” for this tournament.

Will Federer play in Paris?

Usually, Federer decides at the very end of his Basel campaign if he plays in Paris. However, the good news for the French fans is that the former world no.1 reached the final in Switzerland after playing barely more than 3 hours in total during the week. Therefore, Roger will not have grueling final agaisnt De Minaur, he might very well decide to play in France.

We still wait for Federer’s answer

Gille Forget, the tournament director in Bercy, is still happy with the overall participation with the likes of Djokovic, Nadal, Zverev already at the premises. The Frenchman commented:

“When you see players who have already arrived in the capital like Rafa, Novak Djokovic, Zverev, all the players in the world are here, with the exception of those still in the race in Basel and Vienna. Roger has lost six games in Basel, he qualified [for the semi-finals] without playing against Stan Wawrinka.

We want to see the glass half full. He is not too tired, I have hope. We often had news on Sunday evening, unfortunately, a little sad. But we will remain optimistic. We have 95 per cent of the world’s best, with Roger it would be even better.”

Federer’s draw

In the meantime, the draw is already out, and the Swiss fell in Nadal’s half. After the ritual 1st round bye, Roger should play Basilashvili, Monfils, Zverev, Nadal, and Djokovic.
