Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina love spending time together, but unfortunately, given their profession, that’s not always possible. The Frenchman and the Ukrainian are often seen practicing together and supporting each other when they are engaged in the same tournaments. That usually happens during the slams or the events in Indian Wells, Miami, and Cincinnati. However, some other times, they can only cheer for each other from the distance. This is what has been happening for the last 2 weeks.
Monfils in Vienna and Paris chasing the Finals
Gael is trying to do everything he can to qualify for the Finals in London. The Frenchman is currently in Vienna where he is about to play the semifinal against Diego Schwartzman. If he wants to have a chance to play the season’s finale, he needs to win the title in Austria and have a deep run the following week in “his” Paris.
Gael seems to be extremely upbeat after his last win in the quarters in Vienna over Aljaz Bedene to comment: “I am serving better and better. I had a very good rhythm with my serve. My movement is great. I think I can play better tennis.”
Svitolina in Shenzhen
Elina has managed to qualify for the WTA Finals, and she is currently in Shenzhen, where she will try to defend her title. Last year, the Ukranian defeated Sloane Stephens in the final in Singapore. In China, Svitolina is in the purple group with Karolina Pliskova, Binaca Andrescu, and Simona Halep.
