Federer’s mother Lynette explains why she was so happy to spend time with Roger in Asia

Federer traveled with his parents for the Shanghai Masters as well as an exhibition match in Japan.

Roger Federer is currently playing at the Swiss Indoors in Basel. The 20-time Grand Slam champion played at the Shanghai Masters last week. He lost to Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals. He also traveled to Tokyo to play an exhibition match against John Isner. His parents accompanied him during his matches in China and Japan.

Federer’s parents, Robert and Lynette, spend some time with their son in Asia. They cheered for him at the Shanghai Masters during his quarterfinal run and were in awe about his popularity in China. Fans turned out in large numbers just to watch Roger practice during the tournament. Lynette has talked about the trip to China and Japan with their son. The trip to China was her third after previous visits in 2005 and 2007 when Shanghai hosted the ATP Final. She praised the city of Shanghai for how it had continued to develop over the years. Federer’s parents also traveled to Japan for his exhibition in Tokyo. It was their first visit to the Asian country. Lynette said, “I also went to Japan. We experienced the amazing culture of the Japanese and we may be back.”

The South African origin

During his time in Asia, the Swiss did not travel with his children. The 38-year-old got to spend time with his parents on tour. His parents met in South Africa when Robert moved to the African nation in 1970. Robert is a German-Swiss while Lynette is South African. The current world No.3’s father is 73 years old while his mother is currently 67 years of age. They got married in 1973 and have two children, Federer, and his older sister Diana. The 20-time Grand Slam winner’s father helps him to manage the Roger Federer Foundation.

This week, Federer is playing in his home town of Basel for the Swiss Indoors. The 38-year-old served as a ball boy at the tournament when he was 12-years-old. He has won the title in Basel nine times in his career. His family is always happy to watch him play at the tournament. He also has a tradition of buying pizza for the ball boys and girls at the tournament. He does this regardless of whether he wins the tournament or not. The former world number one is favored to win his tenth title at the tournament.
