Tsitsipas admits it was critical beating Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic

Stefanos talks about the confidence that he is getting for playing and beating the Big3

Tsitsipas at the Laver Cup with Federer and Nadal

Stefanos Tsitsipas is one of the few players that has managed to beat Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic in the same year. That happened during a fantastic and “overcomplicated” 2019 after many things happened.

Stefanos started the season with a bang after beating Roger Federer at the Australian Open before reaching the semifinal and bump into an amazing Rafael Nadal. After losing for 3 consecutive times in straight sets to the King of Clay, Stefanos finally managed to beat the Spaniard in the semifinal in Madrid before bumping into Novak Djokovic. Finally, in 2019 also the Serb fell against Tsitsipas that beat him in the quarters in Shanghai 2 weeks ago. The Greek is one of the few players in the world that holds a positive record (2-1) against Djokovic.

About defeating the Big3

Stefanos is currently in Basel, where he is competing at the local ATP500. During a recent interview with SRF, Tsitsipas commented:

“It’s not easy to play against these guys. I worked hard for it. I am also thankful that I am allowed to play against them [Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic]; I can learn a lot from them. And I hope I can repeat these victories in the future.”

I learned more from my lows

Tsitsipas had a rather lousy stint starting from Wimbledon, where he lost in the 1st round throughout the American season when he was defeated in 5 consecutive matches. Finally, he found his way after he reached the final in Beijing and the semifinal in Shanghai.

About his difficult moment, Stefanos commented:

“I learned more from the lows than from the highs. I recognized things that did not work for me. We make all mistakes in life. But it’s good to turn it off quickly. I sat down and thought about what I can change. From that point, I started again.”

On the collision path with Roger Federer

Stefanos will face either Pablo Andujar or Richard Berankis in the 2nd round. The 21-year-old is on a collision path with Roger Federer as they may clash in the semifinal.
