After the epic we had at the 2012 US Open with Murray winning his first slam, we need to have a look at the new rankings.
Roger is ahead …
Even if the Maestro had a lousy US Open (“lousy” because of the expectations) to lose in the quarters against Berdych , he managed to widen the gap with Nole. In fact, Roger lost 360pts (720pts from last year’s semi minus 360pts from this year’s quarters), but Nole lost 800pts as last year he was the US Champion (2000pts-1200pts=800pts).
… but Nole is better positioned
Strange enough Nole is 1005 points ahead in the race to London as he had a better 2012 than Roger’s.
The weird situation comes from the fact that Roger had a wonderful 2011 year end winning Basel (500pts), Paris (1000pts) and the World Tour Finals (1500pts). Conversely Nole had a pretty lousy year end to get to the semi in Basel (180pts), the quarters in Paris (180pts) and to win only 200pts at the World Tour Finals.
So this battle is still very alive
Andy overtakes Rafa
With his wonderful US Open Andy becomes world no.3 to overtake Rafa by a whopping 1055pts.
Andy is still behind Rafa in the Race to London as he had a better 2011 year’s end to win Bangkok (250pts), Tokyo (500pts), Shanghai (1000pts) and reach the quarters in Paris (180pts). Rafa on the other hand reached the final in Tokyo (300pts), the round of 16 in Shanghai (90pts) and he got 200pts from the World Tour Finals.
