Murray beats Djokovic to win his first slam – 2012 US Open – YouTube

Finally Murray!

Andy has been struggling for years to win a well deserved slam to finally have his dream day at the US Open. It has been since 1936 that a Brit didn’t win a major and the very long waiting finally came to an end. But it wasn’t easy… at all.

First Set 7-6 (10) -> Huge Marathon

This was an epic within the epic (or a match in a match as you like). This set lasted a whopping 87 minutes (24 minutes only for the tiebreak) and Murray won it at the 6th set point. To put a big red circle on a 54 shot rally (!!!???) in the sixth game. Oh bay that wasn’t normal!

Second Set – 7-5 -> Some choking is coming

Although the Scott won it in 59 minutes there were some signs of choking moments as Murray squandered a 4-1 lead to grab the set 7-5 with only 5 winners (not a real attacking style).

Third Set -> 2-6 Nole is back to business

Can you ever write Nole off from a final? Never!. Time for the Serb to be proud and show some (more) teeth. Andy didn’t start well to concede a couple of break points in the opening game and to capitulate in the 4th. Nole got a nice and easy 3-1 lead to win the third set 6-2.

Forth Set -> 3-6 The rise of Nole

Nole started to beleive in it. He knew that Andy could melt away any moment. The big problem was that the Serb was already super tired as the match was already well beyond the 3 hours mark at the beginning of the forth set.  Playing the semifinal the day before didn’t really help Djokovic’s fitness.
So the 4th set was about a worn out man (Nole) and a choking one (Andy).  The Scott lost his first serve (only 45% in) and he was struggling with a wobbling forehand (Nole was taking full advantage of it). Eventually Murray was placing his shots in the middle of the court for the fear of unforced errors, while the correct strategy would have been  to move a mega tired Djokovic around the court. Eventually the serb won the 4th set.

Fifth Set – 6-2 -> A dream come true

Nole was far too tired to concede a double break to Murray form the very beginning and find himself 0-3 down. Then Andy went to serve too “relaxed” to badly lose his service game at 15 (1-3). Then Nole held the next game to get a 2-3 score. Then.. game over. Nole breaks and Andy meets history.

Losing to Roger in this year Wimbledon final got the heart of his nation, winning today made their very proud of theis brightest tennis star.

Well Done!
