These are the oddities of the rankings. Serena is clearly the strongest player in the ladies game at the moment (well at least talking about the last 4 months). During the summer she has won Wimbledon, the Olympic Games (trashing everybody), the US Open and she is not the world no.1 (not even no.2 or 3!!!???).
Well to be honest a good ranking has to take in consideration a proper period of time, not 3 months but at least 1 year (and definately not 2 years as proposed by Nadal... too long Rafa… too long). So this is why the strongest tennis player is ranked world no.4. This situation happens as Serena didn’t have an impressive year just because she was ill.
A good news for Sharapova’s fans is that the Russian beauty regained the 2nd spot in the rankinsg thanks to her semifinal at the US Open and the incredible defeat of Radwanska at the hands of Roberta Vinci
Finally we have to stress how Sara Errani keeps on surprising by reaching the 7th spot. Brava!
