Djokovic beats Ferrer to play Murray in the 2012 US Open final

There was a bit of a drama in this match, just a bit as everything got back in place when the weather conditions become normal. What happened?

The first set was played in extreme windy conditions the day before. The wind disrupted Nole’s game to give a very comfortable 5-2 lead to a “more compact” David Ferrer. Then the organizers decided to stop the game as there was a tornado warning.

The day after was… a different day. David won the first set and then… game over. Nole got into his groove and he proved to be too strong for the Spaniard. Both players have a very similar game, lets say … the same, the only difference is that Djokovic is much better then Ferrer at playing that game. So unless the Serb is not in good condition, there can be only a winner on the hard court: Nole.

Nole managed to have a very “clean” game in the last 3 sets to do some winners and very few unforced errors. The match ended in 2 hours and 32 minutes.

From Nole

“It’s a great relief obviously to get it over with in four sets,” said Djokovic. “As well I was a different player. I felt much more comfortable on the court today than I did yesterday. Obviously the conditions were more brutal for all of us who played yesterday. Ferrer was I think coping with the conditions much better than I did. He was handling it great. I didn’t find any rhythm, so I didn’t mind getting off the court yesterday, to be honest, and coming in today.”

From David

“Yesterday was windy; yesterday was better for me,” Ferrer Said. “I played better because maybe Novak he didn’t play so good in the start of the match. But every match is different. Every day is different. You wake up with a different feeling.”

“I made a semi-final in Grand Slam; my second time in the semi-final here at US Open. This was the best of my career,” he added. “Of course I am very positive. I am very happy with myself and with my performance.”

Djokovic – Murray

Head to head is 8-6 for Nole. 6-5 for the Serb on Hard court. The played only once in a slam in the 2011 Australian Open final when Djokovic won 6-4, 6-2, 6-3.

The prediction: who knows?
