Unstoppable Medvedev wants to be world no.1 ahead of Nadal, Djokovic, and Federer

Daniil Medvedev

Daniil Medvedev is the most in-form player in the world.

The Russian sensation won his 7th career title in Shanghai and he managed to be ranked no.3 in the Year to date rankings after his run in China. However, Daniil is not done as he knows he has the tennis and the mentality to reach the very top of the rankings.

Medvedev about becoming the world no.1

After winning Shanghai, Daniil commented

“I always say that my first goal is to win every match I play. And that’s how I can actually become No 1 if you win a lot of matches in a row just like I did.

But to be honest with you, when you asked this question right now, I kind of thought, yeah, I don’t have that many points to defend till I would say the USA next year. But I’m going to try my best to show great results as I did here, and if something like this is going to happen, it’s just a big bonus.”

Currently, Daniil has a 3625 points gap with Djokovic that is leading the rankings. However, he doesn’t have many points to defend. Therefore, if he has a spectacular run in the last 3 events of the year, he has definitely a shot at being the world no.1 sometimes in 2020.

Medvedev retired from Moscow

Daniil was meant to play the ATP250 in Moscow, but he had to pull out citing fatigue. He is expected to compete in Vienna next week and then in Bercy.
