Rafael Nadal and his fiancé Xisca Perello will tie the knot this coming Saturday. Nadal did not play in the Shanghai Masters last week. He is recovering from a wrist injury and has been training at The Rafael Nadal Academy ahead of the big day. Family and close friends will grace the wedding ceremony. Among the guests invited is the former king of Spain Don Juan Carlos and his wife Dona Sofia.

King Don Juan Carlos stepped down from the throne in 2014. His son, Prince Felipe, replaced him as king. The former king shared a special friendship with Nadal. Together with his wife, Sofia, he has visited The Rafael Nadal Academy in the past. “The King of Clay” gave them a tour of the facility. The 19-time Grand Slam champion also signed tennis balls for the former monarch as a way to commemorate the visit. Nadal’s family is close to the royal family. They have had meals in the past in local restaurants around Mallorca. Don Juan Carlos and his wife will attend Nadal’s wedding which will take place at the La Fortaleza estate.

When they got engaged and the wedding ring

Nadal and Xisca have been dating since 2005. The couple was engaged while on a romantic trip to Rome last year. The kept the news private until early this year when it was revealed that they would hold the wedding in October.

The honeymoon at the Bahamas

After Nadal’s participation in the Laver Cup last month, the couple went on holiday to the Bahamas. Four close friends accompanied them to the popular holiday destination. Xisca was also in Barcelona to check up on her wedding gown. Fashion firm Rosa Clara will design the gown. The firm has its headquarters in the city and will send the dress to Xisca under highly secret conditions once it is finished.

Ronaldo, Enrique Iglesias also expected to join

Apart from royalty, other famous celebrities will attend the wedding ceremony. Footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and pop star Enrique Iglesias will grace the occasion. NBA player Pau Gasol and tennis star Feliciano Lopez are among the Spanish athletes invited for the wedding. After the wedding, Nadal will turn his attention to the final stages of the tennis season. He could play at the Paris Masters which begin on October 28, ten days after his wedding. He will then play in the ATP Finals and the Davis Cup finals in November.

Ranked no.2, Rafael played his last match on the 8th of September when he defeated Daniil Medvedev 7-5 6-3 5-7 4-6 6-4 in the final in U.S. Open to win his 84th career title.

This year Rafael has a 47-6 win-loss record. Rafael has won 4 titles in 2019 in Rome, at the French Open, in Montreal and at the U.S. Open. The Spaniard was the finalist at the Australian Open.
