Rafael Nadal is not playing at the Shanghai Masters this week. The Spaniard withdrew from the tournament after suffering an injury in the Laver Cup last month. The 19-time Grand Slam champion is set to wed his fiancé Xisca Perello this month. Preparations for the wedding are underway. The couple was is in the Bahamas with friends as Nadal took a break from the busy tennis season.
About Xisca Perello
Nadal and Xisca have been dating since 2005. Xisca is 31 years old. She is a business graduate and worked in the insurance industry before making the switch to being a project manager at The Rafael Nadal Foundation. She does not own social media accounts and prefers to keep a low profile in public. She, however, attends some of Nadal’s matches from time to time. The couple was engaged while on holiday in Rome earlier this year.
The La Fortaleza estate is the expected venue for the wedding. The estate is famous for its privacy and secrecy in hosting events for celebrities. For their wedding, Nadal and Xisca are taking some precautionary steps. Only close family members and invited guests will attend. Guests will not have their phones during the ceremony.
Employees working for firms hired for the wedding will have to sign confidentiality agreements. A private security firm will provide security for the big day. Drones and aircraft will not fly over the estate on the wedding day. Maca de Castro will provide catering for the event. Local priest Tomeu Catala will officiate the ceremony.
Federer not expected to attend the wedding
Nadal’s tennis rival and friend Roger Federer will not attend the ceremony. The Swiss star is currently playing in the Shanghai Masters. He will play at an indoor event in Basel during the weekend of the wedding. The two had a good relationship at the Laver Cup. They coached each other at the tournament and helped guide Team Europe to its third Laver Cup. Nadal and Xisca have been dating since 2005. The wedding will take place on 19th October. Guests will stay at local hotels around the estate and will access the venue by coach. Among the invited guests is superstar footballer Cristiano Ronaldo. The former Real Madrid player is a good friend of Nadal. Other expected at the wedding are Enrique Iglesias, former king Juan Carlos, NBA player Pau Gasol and Spanish tennis player Feliciano Lopez. After the wedding, Nadal could play at the Paris Masters. He will then play in London at the ATP finals as he looks to overtake Djokovic at the number one position.

Ranked no.2, the Spaniard played his last match on the 8th of September when he defeated Daniil Medvedev 7-5 6-3 5-7 4-6 6-4 in the final in U.S. Open to win his 84th career title.
This year Nadal has a 47-6 win-loss record. Nadal clinched 4 titles in 2019 in Rome, at the French Open, in Montreal and at the U.S. Open. The Spaniard was the finalist at the Australian Open.
