Stefanos Tsitsipas

Stefanos Tsitsipas is in action at the Shanghai Masters this week. The 21-year-old will be hoping to break the dominance that Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, and Roger Federer have had at the tournament. The Greek player has had some impressive results against the experienced players this year. He defeated the Swiss at the Australian Open, reaching the semi-finals of the tournament. He is the youngest player with victories over Nadal, Federer, and Djokovic in his career.

More connected with people I care about

The 21-year-old, however, had a string of disappointing results after his impressive run in Australia. He suffered first-round losses at Wimbledon and at the US Open last month. After the disappointing losses, Tsitsipas declared that he would take a break from social media. The Greek player said he wanted to focus on his game and spend more time with his family. The 21-year-old has now revealed that the time away from social media has been healthy for him. In an interview, the Greek player said he felt more connected with those around him. “I feel much more connected than before with people that I care about, I spend more quality time.”

Feel more human

Tsitsipas admitted that social media took up a lot of his time as he tried to connect with fans. Since taking a break from the internet, the 21-year-old has had more time to practice on the court. He revealed that he has improved his concentration on his game. Overall, Stefanos has summed up his experience away from social media as good for his well being. “I feel more human and more like me than ever before.” Results on the court have also improved for the world No. 7. He reached the finals of the China Open last week, losing to Dominic Thiem in the final.

This week, the 21-year-old has already played a match at the Shanghai Masters. He defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second round of the tournament on Wednesday. The win was his first over the Canadian in his career. He had lost all his matches to Felix in the Junior Championships and their first two encounters after turning pro. After finally overcoming the Canadian, Tsitsipas moved closer to qualifying for the ATP Finals in London. He is seventh on the ATP rankings. The Greek player has expressed his desire to break the dominance of “The Big Three.” “At some point, we will see change. It can’t be that Rafa, Roger, and Novak win everything.”
