ANDREESCU. I knew how to beat Serena Williams at the US Open

The 19-year-old was confident going into the final and has revealed that she knew what to expect before the match.

Bianca Andreescu has had a good 2019. The 19-year-old is among the leading earners in the WTA tour this year, having earned over $6 million dollars in prize money. She has won three titles this year. The Canadian won her first title at the Indian Wells Open in March. Her second came against Serena Williams at the Rogers Cup. The 23-time Grand Slam champion retired from the final of that match due to injury. The two players met again in the final of the US Open in September. Andreescu won the match 6-3 7-5 to claim the first Grand Slam title of her career.

Andreescu revealed that she was confident she would defeat the 23-time Grand Slam title. “I had a sense of how she played. I knew what to expect going into the match. I think I controlled my nerves a little bit better.” The Canadian has said she practices meditation and visualization. She revealed that she had dreamt of playing Serena since she was a little girl. The 19-year-old was highly motivated going into the match. She said she has always had a strong belief in her abilities. Her victory made her the first Canadian to win a Grand Slam title.

Andreescu vs. Osaka

Williams’s loss to the 19-year-old was her second consecutive defeat in the US Open final. She lost to Naomi Osaka last year. Osaka and Andreescu played their first match last week at the China Open. The Japanese star won the match, ending Andreescu’s 17-match winning streak. She went on to win the tournament. The match could be the beginning of a tennis rivalry which could play out over the next few years. The two players have had a rapid rise to the top of the game. They both have winning records against Serena Williams. Andreescu holds a 2-0 record against the former world number one while Osaka has a 2-1 record.

Aiming at the WTA Finals in Shenzhen and wqorld No.1 rank

After the China Open, Andreescu will turn her attention to the WTA Finals in Shenzhen. The 19-year-old will make her debut in the finals which will begin on 27th October. She has said she is confident heading into the tournament and believes she can beat the top players in the game. “I have a lot of high expectations for myself.There is a lot of tough competition out there, so I am looking forward to seeing how I can handle them.”
