2012 US Open: Draws and Preview

Once again the US Open is using the offical ATP and WTA ranking to determine the top seeds of the tournament.

MEN

Roger has broken another record to be the first man to be the 1st seed for the 6th time at the US Open to overtake McEnroe (top seed for 5 times).  Roger still shares with Sampras and Connors the record as the most titles won in modern era (5) at the Flushing Meadows and he is hungry for more. Federer is the hot favourite also because his greatest nemesis (Rafa) won’t play (enjoying Mallorca and some rehabilitation), but Nole and the rest of the pack will try to spoil the Maestro’s party.. for sure.

There are quite big expectation about the role that will be played by Murray that seems to have “matured” in big competitions after winning the Olympics. Wilander and Ivanisevic mantain that Murray is the favourite (that was bold!).

Here you can find the top seeds.

LADIES

Vika Azarenka is the top seed, but not many people think that currently she is the strongest player. Serena is definately at the top of the list after mauling her opponents during the last few months. Radwanska… uhm.. she is there as seed no.2, but not the hot favourite. If she does not eat to many Sugarpova candies, Maria Sharapova has definately a shot at the tournament. She just need not to have those days when she commits 20 double faults in a single match. The rest of the ladies, well we can’t ignore Kvitova and Stosur, but we don’t see them winning the US Open this year… then… who knows?

Top seeds

1. Azarenka
2. Radwanska
3. Serena Williams
