Federer, Djokovic, Murray advance in Cincinnati – 2012 Western and Southern Open

Winning start of the top seeds with different feelings.

FEDERER

It took exactly 1 hour for Roger to defeat Bogolomov Jr in straight sets. The fans had the luck to see a full steam Roger on a very fast court that didn’t suit much the Russian. Everything went in the right direction for the Swiss that also took advantage of a very good first serve (12 aces on 9 service games played).

“It was very fast out there and so there wasn’t much chance for rallies and that can be frustrating when you are on the losing side but he put up a good fight,” Federer said.

Roger will play Tomic in the nex match. Head to Head is 2-0 for Roger (with the Davis Cup included). 1-0 for the Swiss on a much slower surface at this year’s Australian Open (6-4 6-2 6-2) in the 4th round. The Swiss is the clear favorite.

DJOKOVIC

Nole is fighting like a hero. He is the only guy in the tour to have played all matches back to back from the Olympics till here in Cincinanti and he should really struggle from a phisical and mental point of view. But he is going for it. As per his own word the match wasn’t as nice as it was full of unforced errors.

“I wasn’t satisfied with my performance, I will have to play much better than this in order to go far,” said Djokovic.”There were a lot of unforced errors from both of us. It wasn’t a really pretty match.”

Eventually the Serbian managed to get through to play Davydenko in the next round.

Head to head is 5-2 for Nole. The Russian did not defeat him since 2009 (semi in Shanghai 4-6 6-4 7-6 ). The Serb would be the super favorite, but giving the fact that he is exhusted and Nikolay is playing very well on this surface, we may have an upset.

MURRAY

It took only 75 minutes for the flying Scott to defeat wildcard Sam Querrey 6-2 6-4. Andy was at eas from the very beginning. “He’s had some good wins, so I was expecting a tough match. I think that helped me,” saidMurray .”I was very sharp right at the beginning of the match. I needed to be, and it was a good start to the tournament,”

Murray was quite pleased for the fact that he didn’t struggle with his knee “It felt fine. I moved well today. It was still giving me a little bit of trouble in practice for a couple of days before the tournament, but it felt much, much better on the court today. I moved well, so I’m hoping it won’t be a problem,” he said.

Murray will play Chardy. Head to head is 4-0 for Andy. They played only once in Cincinnati in 2010 in the 2nd round where the Scott won  6-3 6-7(3) 6-2. It should be game over for Chardy.
