Kvitova defeats Li Na to win the 2012 Rogers Cup – YouTube Highlights

Great stuff for Petra Kvitova that finally managed to win a title in 2012. The Czech was the biggest promise for 2012, but eventually she was the biggest underachiever. Now she is trying to turn things around.

Another good news for Petra is also that this is her first title on the American soil where she has always struggles. ”I hope it will continue,” said Kvitova,  ”North America is always tough for me and I’m so glad how I played here this week.”

Talking about her abstinence of titles in 2012  “It’s great,“ added  Kvitova,  ”I finally won a title this year. It was a good final, a good fight from both sides.”

The match lasted 2 hours and 17 minutes and as Li Na said it wasn’t a stroll in the park ”It was a tough match, this was a tennis war,” said the Chinese . ”Both players played good. She’s very tough. She plays the ball so deep. I felt I was always on defence. The last two matches I felt I could be aggressive on the court, but this one I felt I was 70 per cent of the time on defence.”

This tournament proved to be quite beneficial for both players as they managed to climb in the WTA rankings (Kvitova is now no.5 and Li Na is no.9) and they won a very good prize money ($360,000 for Kvitova $180,000 for Li Na).
