The US Open final was a close affair between Rafael Nadal and Daniil Medvedev. The match lasted for close to five hours as the two players battled each other in a thrilling five sets. Nadal won the match to clinch his 19th Grand Slam title. However, The Russian’s performance earned him recognition as one of the best young players in the game. Nadal has had a successful 2019 season. Winning the French Open and US Open titles moved him closer to equaling Roger Federer’s tally of 20 major titles. He has been a regular at the Mubadala Tennis championships since its inception in 2009. The Spaniard has won the event four times. While confirming his participation for this year’s tournament, the 33-year-old said he looked forward to playing at the event. He said the event was a good way to prepare for a tennis season each year.
Medvedev will be making his debut in Abu Dhabi after an excellent season. The Russian has won three titles in 2019 and reached his first Grand Slam final. The 23-year-old expects some support from his country folk at the tournament since Abu Dhabi is a regular destination for Russian tourists. He added that he would use the tournament to prepare for the new season.
The Mubadala World Tennis championships will take place from 19th-21st December. The events’ venue will be at the International Tennis Center in Zayed Sports City. The tournament is a favorite for the best players in the world who use it as a pre-season workout. The event takes place over three days. There is an interactive session for fans and players while kids under 12 years of age get in free on the first day which is Kid’s day. Tickets for the tournament are currently on sale.
Nadal’s wedding with Xisca Perello
It will be a busy end of the year for Nadal. The Spaniard is set to get married to his longtime girlfriend Xisca Perello. The wedding will take place on October 19th. The 33-year-old is on holiday with his fiancé after helping Team Europe win the Laver Cup. After the wedding, Nadal will be back on the court for the ATP finals in London set for November. He will also take part in the Davis Cup finals in Madrid later that month.
