Bianca Andreescu: My coaching team helps me to calm down

The U.S. Open champ made the good decision to rest a bit after her win. How much influence did her team have in making that decision?

Bianca Andreescu and coaching team

After defeating Serena Williams in last month’s U.S. Open finals, Bianca Andreescu’s life has become incredibly stressful. She immediately became a media darling, booking several guest interviews on shows like the “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” and “Live with Kelly and Ryan.” She also got into a multiple-day victory tour in her hometowns of Mississauga and Toronto in Canada. The good thing about Andreescu is the fact that she has a dedicated team behind that genuinely cares for her.

Andreescu shares how valuable her coaching team is for her

The 19-year old Canadian star recently opened up about how her team helps her perform better in her games. She said that her team actually helps ground her, telling her to calm down whenever she insists on playing every tournament she can enter.

She also credits her team for the high value her training places on her physical, emotional and mental health. She recently realized that being healthier enables her to achieve more as a player. This is why she is more wary about taking unnecessary risks now which can jeopardize her chances of winning more tournaments.

Bianca notably pulled out of the Wuhan Open last month because she wanted to take care of herself better. The Wuhan Open happened just a few weeks after her U.S. Open win, which would have meant that she would dive right into a pretty big tournament.

Back then, she said that it was her choice to have a bigger amount of control over the schedule of her games. This hopefully will help her avoid experiencing burn out in the next few months.

Andreescu also shared that visualizing herself winning and meditating play a crucial role in her tournament preparations. These actions help motivate her to do better in the games that she is in.

The world No. 5 recently stirred public opinion when she said that she kind of already forgot how it feels to lose. The 19-year old has won the last 14 matches that she was a part of, an impressive tally.

Canadian star closes in on no. 1 spot in year’s top earners

Meanwhile, Andreescu’s strong performance in recent games helped her accumulate $6,060,485 in prize earnings since January 1. Currently, she is only behind world no. 1 Ashleigh Barty by $64,837 in the WTA Tour based on earnings.

With Barty and Bianca set to play in the China Open, there might be a change in the tally soon. China Open’s top prize is at $1.5 million, which is more than enough for Andreescu to leapfrog Barty into the top spot of the ranking.

It seems that the 19-year old star is also making a play for the top spot of the world rankings. However, she may not be able to achieve that until next year because she has Barty, Simona Halep, Elina Svitolina and Naomi Osaka standing in her way.
