The WTA Finals will take place on October 27th –November 3rd in Shenzhen, China. Four players have been announced for the tournament. Ashleigh Barty, Karolina Pliskova, Simona Halep, and Bianca Andreescu have qualified for the event. Four other players will be selected for the event in the next few weeks. The tournament will be competitive as the best eight players in women’s tennis compete against each other.
Big achievement for Andreescu
Andreescu qualified for the event following a successful season in which she won three tournaments. After the WTA confirmed her participation in the finals, the Canadian said she was happy to qualify. The US Open champion revealed that she has always dreamt of playing in the WTA Finals. She has thanked her team for the work they put in to help her qualify for the event. Her performances this year earned her the opportunity to play in the finals. She has won the Indian Wells Open, Rogers Cup and the US Open title.
I play my best against top players
The Canadian will be the second player to qualify for the WTA finals at 19 years of age. The first was Caroline Wozniacki in 2009. Andreescu is confident she can compete and win against the best players in the game. Asked about her chances at the event, the current world number six said she looked forward to the challenge. “I have a lot of tough competition before I can lift up that trophy. I’m just going to take it match after match. I think I play my best tennis when I play top players. Yeah, I think I can do good things there.”
The Canadian started the year ranked outside the top 100. She has risen dramatically over the past couple of months. The 19-year-old achieved a career high number five ranking in September. She has enjoyed success against opponents ranked in the top 20 on her rise to the top. Apart from beating Serena Williams at the US Open, she has also scored some notable victories. She defeated Wozniacki in January at the Auckland Open in New Zealand. At the time, she was ranked 152. She won a match against Elina Svitolina at the Indian Wells Open and defeated Angelique Kerber in the final. Andreescu also recorded victories over Kiki Bertens and Karolina Pliskova on her way to lifting the Rogers Cup in Toronto. She is currently playing at the China Open.

Ranked no.6, Bianca Vanessa has a 44-4 win-loss record in 2019. Bianca Vanessa is playing in Beijing where she beat Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-2 2-6 6-1.
Bianca Vanessa will compete against Mertens in the 2nd round. The head to head is 1-0 for Andreescu.
The last time that they competed against each other, Andreescu won 3-6 6-2 6-3 in the quarter in New York in 04th September 2019.
The Canadian clinched 4 titles in 2019 in the Newport Beach, in Indian Wells, in Toronto and at the U.S. Open. The Canadian was the finalist in Auckland.
