Great Murray wins a wonderful gold at the 2012 Olympic Games

Finally Andy!!! The Scott, sorry.. the Brit has conquered a very important gold medal by destroying an “energyless Roger”.

The Match

After few games there was no doubt at all about who would have been the winner. Andy was hungry and in perfect conditions. Roger was emotionally, mentally and phisically (very) tired. He could have never managed to have a battle with a very inspired Murray.

Federer had a decent start to trail to a 2-2 scoreline then… game over! Andy won 9 consecutive games to lead 6-2 5-0. Roger had  just nothing in the tank as he was continuosly late on his shots. The Swiss managed to stay a bit in the game thanks to his service. Murray was on another planet, sometimes nervous, but in full control. This final was a well deserved long hangin fruit. It was really nice to finally see Andy smiling after an important final.

Andy

“the biggest win of my life. This week’s been absolutely incredible, I’ve had a lot of fun. I felt so fresh on the court today. I didn’t feel nervous really at all, apart from at the beginning of the match. The support’s been unbelievable.”

“It’s definitely different,” he added . “I’ve won an Olympic gold medal. I haven’t won a Grand Slam. I know how this feels and it feels great. I’ve lost some tough matches in some tough finals and that’s hurt me a lot. I think tennis in the Olympics is getting better each time it’s played, because all the top players are playing now. For me it’s the biggest win of my life. I’ll never forget it. I’m able to deal with the situations better now. I felt much more comfortable on the court. The crowd helped me get a few extra miles an hour the last couple of serves. I went for some big serves and I got them.”

Roger

“I think this is as good as I could do during these championships,” commented the Swiss. “Andy was much better than I was today in many aspects of the game. For me, it’s been a great month. I won Wimbledon, became World No. 1 again, and I got silver. Don’t feel too bad for me. I am very, very proud honestly to have won a silver. I had a very emotional tournament from start to finish. I could have lost in the first round against Falla. Same thing obviously with del Potro. I felt like I won my silver, I didn’t lose it. So I feel very, very happy.”

“I had tears in my eyes after my first round match. Doing media on court, I almost broke down,” he said . “But this is how much this meant to me. I understood how close I was from losing. Then there was no doubt about it, I felt the same way exactly after the semis. Maybe there was so much emotion already out of me that potentially today that kind of hindered me from playing my absolute very best.”

Talking about Andy “He’s an amazing player already,” added Roger. “I thought he played a very, very good Wimbledon Championship. So for me what I was happy to see is that he didn’t have a let-down after the Wimbledonfinal. It’s easy to come back, best-of-three, go out third round maybe. You just feel more horrible. But he didn’t do that. He came, he won gold. I think this is how champions react.”

Good stuff!
