Serena Williams and Sharapova to clash in the final – 2012 Olympics

Serena and Maria are definately the strongest players around (in this moment).

Serena – This is not normal!

Serena’s road to final was smashing. She played incredible opponents to trash all of them. She left only 4 games to Jankovic in the 1st round (6-3 6-1), 1 game to Zvonareva in the 3rd (6-1 6-0), 3 games to Wozniacki in the quarters (6-0 6-3) and 4 games to Azarenka (6-1 6-2)  in the semifinal. What the h…, is she playing in the same league as the others!!!

Yesterday it was another tennis massacre as it took 63 minutes, 16 aces, 33 winners (and only 5 unforced errors !?!?) to demolish the world no.1.

“I’m just enjoying myself,” Williams said. “It’s just a great vibe to have the USA fans and all the other countries’ fans that come out and root really, really hard. It’s an unbelievable experience.”

“When you’re playing the best player in the world, you’ve got to play well,” Williams said. “I felt like I had nothing to lose – just going for it.”

Well.. if this is the recipe…! Well done!

Maria – not bad either

Masha had also a fine path to the final defeating top players such as Lisiki, Clijsters and Kirilenko.

The semis had 2 similar players as both were Russian, 25 years old, very good looking blondes and with the same name!!! Actually, that were the only  similarities as the tallest Maria (Sharapova) managed to win the match with not many problems in 89 minutes.

“Obviously it’s tough to play a Russian on the other side of the net, but I’m happy that one of us can go for gold,” Sharapova said. “It’s incredible, not only to be a part of this event and be an Olympian, but to put yourself in with an opportunity to go for gold. It’s a really nice feeling.”

“It’s been amazing to achieve what I have achieved.” said Sharapova “Obviously growing up you have big dreams and hopes of winning your certain favorite tournaments. I’ve been fortunate to win all the Grand Slams, and obviously this is my first Olympics, so I’m just thrilled to be in the final.”

If Maria wins the final she will be regain the world no.1 ranking.

“I’m way more relaxed this time around,” she said. “Something about this tournament is just making me play well, maybe because it’s not what I worked for my whole life, like to get a Grand Slam. I’m not, like, stressed out – ‘This could be it, No. 14 or No. 15.’ I feel like whether I get a medal or not, I’m happy.”

Head to Head

H2H is 8-2 for Serena, 1-1 on grass. But Maria does not defeat her since the final in Los Angeles in 2004 (!!!) to lose the last 6 matches. Maria defeated Serena in her last Wimbledon final back in 2004 (6-1 6-4). Our pick is Serena. Maybe…
