Novak Djokovic has done many weird and funny things in his life. However, this time in Japan, he went to an all-new level while trying some sumo wrestling.

The world no.1 is currently in Tokyo where he is aiming at winning the local ATP500 and reduce the gap with Rafael Nadal in the year to date rankings.

Djokovic and the Sumo Wrestling

Nole loves to explore the local surroundings when he plays tennis around the world. Therefore, this time, he wanted to try the sumo wrestling, and the result was hilarious, especially for the contrast between the body mass of Novak and his “opponent.”

The Serbian sensation tried to push his counterpart as much as he could without practically no results.

Later, Djokovic commented

“It’s a great experience. I’ve never had this experience before. It’s one of the most popular sports in Japan.

Speaking with my father yesterday on the phone I was telling him that I’m going to have an opportunity to meet sumo wrestlers. He and I were remembering many years ago at home we used to watch Akebono Yokozuna, who was someone that we supported a lot.”

Djokovic and his shoulder injury

The world no.1 will be back to competitions after he had to withdraw in the 4th round of the US Open because of an issue to his left shoulder. Fortunately, Djokovic is currently pain-free and ready to start his run in Japan where he will face Alexei Popyrin in the first round.
