Simona Halep storms in the Montreal final

Too good, just too good.

Simona Halep lamented about the tough schedules she had to endure in Montreal, but eventually she proved to be still too tough for that to dismiss Ashleigh Barty in straight sets.

The match

The world no.1 had a fantastic start to grab a fast 4-1 lead (2 breaks up). However, the Australian managed to get back 1 break (4-2), but that was too late, and Simona won the opening set (6-4).

The second set was a no-contest. In fact, even if the Romanian had to clinch 4 tough games, eventually she conceded just 1 game to win 6-4 6-1.

I played smart. HALEP

Soon after the match, Simona commented

“I think I played smart tennis today. I pushed her on her backhand; then I could just receive a shorter ball, an easier ball for me to open the court.

I just went all the way also on her forehand, short, cross, long, everything. I played some slices. I think the match was a very good level of tennis even if the rhythm was a little bit mixed.”

The final vs. Sloane Stephens

Simona will face Sloane Stephens in the final. The head to head is 6-2 for the Romanian that has won 5 of their last matches.
