Tsitsipas saves 1 MP to stun the world after reaching the Toronto final

What a day for Stefanos Tsitsipas!

The Greek turns 20, and he reaches his first ATP1000 final after beating Kevin Anderson in another epic 3 setter in Toronto.

Stefanos has already beaten 3 top10 players during the week after stunning Dominic Thiem, Novak Djokovic, and Sascha Zverev; Greek was in no mood to end his run in Canada and he produced another great performance against the Wimbledon finalist Kevin Anderson.

The match

The match was clearly dominated by the serve. In the first set both Stefanos and Kevin dropped just 12 points (combined) on serve, and therefore the affair went straight to the tiebreak. The Greek conquered a 4-1 lead that seemed to be enough to win the opener, but then he lost 10 consecutive points to drop the first set and be 0-1 down in the second one.

However, the 20-year-old has already proved many times that he is a die-hard warrior and he stopped the rot in the best possible way after winning 3 consecutive games to clinch a 3-1 lead that was crucial to winning the second set (6-4).

The third set went straight to a dramatic tiebreak. Again, the Greek got a good lead to conquer two match points (6-4), but then he lost 3 consecutive points (6-7) before saving himself a match point with a thunderous backhand (7-7). That was the sign that once again it had to be Stefanos’ day and the birthday boy conquered the following 2 points to grab the match 6-7 (4) 6-4 7-6 (7). The match ended after 2 hours and 48 minutes.

Stefanos will face either Rafael Nadal or Karen Khachanov in the final.
