Simona Halep wins 2 great matches in 1 day!

What a day for Simona Halep in Montreal!

The world no.1 had to defeat Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Venus Williams in the same day.

The match vs. Pavlyuchenkova

This contest was a 2 days’ battle. In fact, the match was suspended (rain) on Wednesday when Simona was 3-4 down. Eventually, the game resumes the day after and it ended up being a marathon that finished after 3 hours.

Simona won a monumental first set at the breaker (11-9), but she looked doomed when in the second set she lost 5 consecutive games to be 1 break down in the decider (from 7-6 4-3 to 7-6 4-6 0-2).

However, Simona is not new to winning amazing battles, and she found her way back to break Anastasia 2 more times and win the match 7-6 (9) 4-6 7-5.

The match vs. Venus Williams

Later in the day, the Romanian sensation was back on court to face Venus Williams that was struggling a bit with her right knee. This time the match was much smoother for Halep that won 6-2 6-2 in just 71 minutes.

Next vs. Caroline Garcia

Simona will face Caroline Garcia in for a place in the semifinal. The head to head is 4-1 for the world no.1.
