Tsitsipas stuns Djokovic in Toronto!

What a run for Stefanos Tsitsipas in Toronto!

The Greek has already claimed an important top10 scalp after he defeated Dominic Thiem in straight sets in the 2nd round and he repeated himself after beating Novak Djokovic soon after in the 3rd round after playing fantastic tennis.

The match

Even if it was clear from the beginning that Stefanos had a good shot at the match (Nole wasn’t playing at his best), Stefanos was requested to show an incredible maturity if he wanted to beat the Wimbledon champion.

The Greek won the first set with relative ease after breaking Djokovic in the 6th game (4-2). Stefanos was much steadier than Nole in his service games with the Serbian often in trouble when serving.

The second set went straight to the breaker that Djokovic won at 5 after grabbing a strong 4-1 lead.

Tsitsipas had a fantastic start of the deciding set after he conquered a 3-0 lead. From that moment the Greek conceded just 3 points in the following 3 service games before winning 6-3 6-7 (5) 6-3.

I feel very proud. TSITSIPAS

After the match, Stefanos commented

“I feel very proud for me, myself, and my country. I’m putting Greece deeper into the map of tennis. I’m pretty sure I’m making my family proud, all of those people that are watching, my coach, my father. It was a very emotional win. I’ve never felt so many emotions after a victory.”

Next vs. Zverev

Stefanos will face the seed no.2 Sascha Zverev n the quarters. The head to head is 1-0 for Sascha that defeated Stefanos a few days ago in Washington 6-2 6-4.
