Djokovic reaches the 2nd round in Toronto with a straight sets win

Even if he is seeded “only” no.9, following his Wimbledon title, Novak Djokovic is considered as one of the top favorites for the title in Toronto.

Djokovic was meant to face Hyeon Chung in the 1st round, but eventually the South Korean had to withdraw from the competition because of a back injury. Therefore, the Serbian had to play the lucky loser and world no. 84 Mirza Basic.

The former world no.1 didn’t play the match of his life against Basic, but he was solid enough to win 6-3 7-6(3).

The conditions are a bit different than the ones in Europe

After the match, Nole commented

“I’ve had plenty of success in Toronto and Montreal, and I wanted to start off well. I think I played a solid match. Obviously, it takes a little bit of time to get used to the new surface. The conditions here are quite different from practicing in Europe or other places.

So I’ll just focus on this week and see how it goes.”

Next vs.Polansky

Nole will face the world no. 121 Peter Polansky in the following round. The head to head is 1-0 for Nole.
