Why Shapovalov decided to play doubles with Felix Auger-Aliassime

Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime are great friends and the biggest hope for Canadian tennis. They have already won the Wimbledon title (boys) in 2016 and they definitely want to go for more.

Denis and Felix are now in Toronto where they are about to compete in the Rogers Cup, and they will play doubles together. To make things even spicier, they are going to face the Wimbledon finalists Novak Djokovic and Kevin Anderson in the first round (a full house will be pretty plausible).

Why I decided to play doubles

During a recent interview  with The Star, Denis explain why he decided to play doubles to comment

“We don’t get too many chances to play together, especially in the last couple of years. So I’m really happy to be back on the court with him. To be honest, the main reason why I wanted to play doubles this week was to play with Felix. First of all, he’s a really good buddy of mine. Second of all, I think it’s really good for the future, for us, for the Davis Cup. Any chance we get to practice together it’s big for us, leading to the future.

And of course, doubles always helps just a little bit more match play, a little bit of practice with volleys, serving and getting a sense of the court. I’m going to get another match on center court before my singles.”

In singles, Denis will face Jeremy Chardy in the first round while Felix will be opposed to Lucas Pouille.
