Buzarnescu demolishes Sakkari to win maiden title in Washington

What a week for Mihaela Buzarnescu!

The Romanian wins her maiden title in San Jose with a bang after defeating Maria Sakkari 6-1 6-0 in the final in just 73 minutes.

It was pretty clear that Mihaela was “ready” to win her first WTA title as she has already reached a couple of finals in 2018 before losing in 3 sets to Elise Mertens (Hobart) and Petra Kvitova (Prague).

The 30-year-old started was well outside the top100 1 year ago (142), and now she will get in the top20. After the match, she commented

“I was trying to focus on my game and not focusing on how she would react. I saw that I was playing really good, making winners and getting every ball back.”

Sakkari was still pretty happy with her run to comment “It was not easy. I woke up, and I was still tired from yesterday, but she was very good today. I wasn’t moving great, and it’s one of my weapons, so it wasn’t easy after two long matches and very intense days.”
