Zverev defends his title in Washington!

At 21 years of age, Sascha Zverev conquers his 9th career title in Washington!

The German impressed in his run in DC where it made it almost “normal” to defend his title especially after defeating Alex De Minaur in the final with a sort of “routine” win.

The final

Zverev made it clear from the very beginning about who was the boss to grab a fast 4-0 lead before winning the opener 6-2. However, De Minaur is well-known for his die-hard tennis, and he tried to stay with Sascha as much as he could in the second set, but eventually a break in the 3rd game proved to be decisive. The world no.3 won this final 6-2 6-4 without even conceding a break point.

Mental strength

Zverev was extremely happy for defending a title for the first time in his young career. The German commented

“It feels great. It shows mental strength as well and shows a little bit of maturity. I had a great tournament. I played a lot of great players. Losing only one set, it was a fantastic week for me.

It’s been a great ride, and hopefully, many more to come, It’s been a really special week for me. It’s been a great first time here, and I can’t wait to come back.”
