Serena Williams destroys Zvonareva, Venus out – 2012 Olympic Games

Different fate for the Williams sisters for their quest for a gold medal.

Serena sent another ominous message to her rivals to demolish Vera Zvonareva in 51 minutes. The stats are quite… unpleseant for the Russian. Serena blasted 12 aces (0 for the Russian that committed 3 double faults). Points played: Serena won 53 vs 23 (26-9 in the second set!). Regarding the winners it was 32-3 for Serena.

“I think I played better today and even in my second round than any match I played at Wimbledon,” Williams said.

“I was just playing unbelievable. I felt good. I was relaxed. I felt like, you know what, I’m here to have fun, I have nothing to lose. No pressure on myself.”

In the next round Serena will play Caroline Wozniacki (6-4 6-2 over Hantuchova). Head to head is 4-1 for Serena.

Venus goes out at the hands of Angelique Kerber losing 2 tiebreaks (both at 5).

Kerber will play Azarenka in the quarters. Head to head 1-0 for Azarenka 6-4 6-3 in the semis of this year’s Indian Wells

Today the Williams will play the doubles against seed no.2 Errani/Vinci. The American are the favorites, but the Italians are quite strong in doubles.
