SHOCKING. Serena Williams scores 1 game against Jo Konta

Can you believe that?

When everything was pointing to a full “tennis recovery” from Serena Williams after she reached the Wimbledon final, the tennis legend fell badly to Jo Konta in the San Jose 1st round.

What happened

After winning the very first game, Serena lost the following 12 (!!!) to face the most one-sided defeat of her career. Eventually, Konta won this match 6-1 6-0 in 52 minutes.

I do not have time to be shocked. WILLIAMS

After this loss, Serena managed to stay classy to say

“She played well in the second set, and I think I wasn’t sharp at all in the first set and she got confident and clearly ran away with it.

I really tried to be there, when I was out there, I was fighting, and that’s all anyone can say, I wasn’t just giving it away, and I was moving a lot better, so just trying to take the positives out of it.

I’m just taking everything a day at a time. I think she played better in this match than she did 18 months (ago when the pair met at Australian Open) so I think that’s a good thing for her. I know I can play a zillion times better so that kind of helps out too.

I have so many things on my mind; I don’t have time to be shocked about a loss.”

It’s always a privilege for me to be on court with her. KONTA

Jo was also very classy to comment

“It’s an absolute privilege for me to be on the same court. She obviously wasn’t playing anywhere near her best level, but I was just trying to play the match on my terms and put aside the incredible champion she is and play the player on the day.

I might have been better on the day, but it’s still a humbling experience to be out there with her.”

Konta will face Sofia Kenin in the 2nd round. Jo is the hot favorite to win her next match, but after defeating Serena with that score line,  this will still be a tournament she will remember forever.
