The tennis community has been debating for the last few years about the adoption of shot-clocks on court. In theory, players are allowed a maximum 25 seconds in between serves on the ATP and WTA circuit and 20 seconds when playing slams. Unfortunately, this rule is seldom observed, and some players break it more than 90% of the time.
Fortunately, the trend is about introducing the shot-clock, and from this week the tournaments in North American will put a visible clock on court to help the players to pace themselves.
Why it’s a good thing. ZVEREV
Of course, this innovation had split opinions, but Zverev gave his green light to say
“They have explained it to us. It’s a change. I think it’s a good thing they are trying it out before the US Open.
I’m one of the fastest players out there, so I don’t think it will change much for me. I’m trying to play tennis better than my opponent. I’m not trying to break an opponent’s rhythm. I’m not that kind of player.”
