Murray wins epic in comeback after converting his 7th MP

Andy Murray was eager to go back to competitions especially on hard courts where he wasn’t playing a tournament since March 2017.

The Brit had a tough opener in Washington where he accessed the main draw with a wildcard. In fact, the world no.832 (Murray) was opposed to the world no. 80 Mackenzie Mcdonald that was in good shape. The match started pretty well for Andy that won immediately a break in the second game (2-0). However, Murray later dropped the following 4 games (2-4) before losing the opener.

Murray got better and better during the “crunch time” in the second set when he managed to win 5 consecutive games (from 3-4 to leading 2-0 in the decider).

The “big” drama unfolded later in the 3rd set when Andy was unable to serve out the match when leading 5-4 after he squandered 5 match points. Eventually, Murray was broken, but he got that break soon after (6-5). In the final game, Andy failed to win another match point before finally converting his 7th opportunity. The final score was 3-6 6-4 7-5.

Next vs. Edmund

Andy will face his friend and compatriot Kyle Edmund in the second round.

The head to head is 2-1 for Andy, but Kyle defeated him recently in Eastbourne.
