After a glorious run in Toronto and the U.S. Open, Bianca Andreescu is at the top of the world. Not only did she bring honor to her home country, she also happened to become the first Canadian to bring home a Grand Slam title. Within the past few weeks, she has also become a media star, with several guesting slots in television and other media appearances. Right now, it seems that she may soon reach the peak of the world rankings too.

As far as exploring Beijing, Andreescu has only visited the Silk Market. She said that she was able to buy some things in the area as it was one of the places on her bucket list. She is particularly looking forward to going to the Great Wall of China after the China Open concludes. She also confessed that she wants to get facials in the city.

Fellow Canadian player Milos Raonic praised Andreescu recently, complimenting her for her Grand Slam title win. He thinks that the 19-year old should be proud of her self and that the warm reception she received during her homecoming tour is well-deserved.

He also thinks that the world no. 5 is on her way to an upward trajectory in the rankings. He even thinks that there is a huge chance for Andreescu to reach the no. 1 spot soon. He observed that there have been multiple no. 1 players in the past few years especially with tennis star Serena Williams getting busy with motherhood. The world No. 5, with her string of good performances, could qualify for the spot.

Andreescu also tied the record for the highest-ranked Canadian female player in tennis. She shares the record with Eugenie Bouchard, who ended up as runner-up to Petra Kvitova in the 2014 Wimbledon finals.

Canadian player’s rise

Andreescu arrived into the mainstream tennis scene in a pretty spectacular way. The U.S. Open final where she defeated Williams was her first time to reach a Grand Slam final match. At just 19 years old, the Canadian also became the first player born during the 2000s to win the four Grand Slam tournaments. When she won in Flushing Meadows, she had an impressive 38-4 playing record for the year.

Andreescu has won three WTA titles so far, all of which were won in 2019. Apart from the US Open, she also sailed to victory at Indian Wells in March and the Rogers Cup in August.

Perhaps most important to note is the massive rise she experienced in the rankings all throughout the year. Last year, she was just ranked no. 208. By the time, she clinched the US Open title, she was already in the top five in the world tally.

Andreescu earns honors

Andreescu has also become a certified star in her home country. During the 42nd Canadian Sport Awards, the 19-year old took home the award for female summer athlete of the year. She was also voted to get the people’s choice award for the performance of the year.
