Novak Djokovic is back and ready to win his 13th slam in Wimbledon.
The Serbian sensation wins a sensational semifinal against an in-form Rafael Nadal in 5 sets.
The match
The contest was played on 2 days as on Friday it started late following the semifinal between Anderson and Isner and it was interrupted after Djokovic won the 3rd set tiebreak (11-9). That meant the Nole went to (sort of) sleep when he was leading 2 sets to 1, but you never feel safe against the great Rafael Nadal.
In fact, when the match resumed on Saturday, the Spaniard rushed to a 3-0 lead. However, Djokovic wasn’t there to wait for Rafa’s comeback, and he managed to make it even (3-3). At that point, it was Rafa to win again the following 3 games (6-4) to bring the affair to a very long 5th set.
In the decider, Rafa looked more energized while Djokovic seemed to struggle a bit with his fitness. Eventually, to borrow an expression from Kevin Anderson, it became a “war of attrition,” and it was Rafa to drop his only service game, and Djokovic won this amazing encounter 6-4 3-6 7-6 (9) 10-8 after 5 hours and 15 minutes.
It’s hard to pick words. DJOKOVIC
Soon after the match, Nole appeared full of emotions to say
“It’s hard to pick the words; I’m just going through things that just flash back the past 15 months. To get to the final against the best player in the world, I don’t know.
It’s very special. It really could have gone either way. Very few things separated us. To the last shot, I didn’t know.”
